The 2017 GMC Acadia to Come Packaged with a Rear Seat Reminder

Rear Seat Reminder
Look behind you!

GMC is a brand that is always looking forward to help deliver amazing technology to their drivers. For GMC’s latest feature, the brand is looking forward by first looking backward.

According to a GMC press release, the 2017 GMC Acadia will come packaged with a Rear Seat Reminder, which is designed to alert drivers of any object that has been left in the rear seats of their vehicles when exiting said vehicle.

This new feature, added to the latest model of the Acadia, will help drivers not only identify supplies they have left behind, but also make sure that all children and pets have safely left the vehicle.

“Acadia drivers live busy lives with demanding schedules, and the Rear Seat Reminder helps protect the things we care about most,” said Tricia Morrow, GM global safety strategy engineer. “Whether it’s your lunch, laptop, pet or most importantly, your child, it’s easier than it seems to forget what’s in the back seat when moving between life’s events. With this new feature, we are leading the charge to address this ongoing problem.”

You don’t need eyes in the back of your head to stay alert. Not when you have the GMC Acadia’s Rear Seat Reminder at your disposal!

Vehicle Areas to Inspect Before a Road Trip

Vehicle Areas to Inspect Before a Road Trip
Check your wipers before your road trip!

Summertime is the perfect time of the year to enjoy a trip out on the open road. However, before you do, you will probably want to inspect several areas of your automobile. If any of these parts to your vehicle do not function properly, then you are going to have a less than desirable road trip. So before you head out on the road, be sure to take a look at these vehicle areas to inspect before a road trip.

Air Conditioning Unit

Summer days out on the road can quickly become unbearably hot. Therefore, you definitely want an air conditioning unit that can keep you cool. Before you head out on the road, be sure to take a look at your vehicle’s air conditioning to make sure it is working correctly.

Windshield Wipers

While driving down the road, a storm could suddenly break out, causing lots of heavy rain to fall. If you don’t have a good set of windshield wipers, then the rain is sure to put a damper on your trip. Buy a new set of windshield wipers before the trip to make your days on the road a little brighter.

Vehicle Lights

The days during the summer are much longer. However, that doesn’t mean that you won’t have to drive during those summer nights. To keep a clear view of what’s up ahead, make sure that your vehicle’s headlights are nice and bright.

You can enjoy your road trip much more when you make sure that all of the parts of your vehicle are working just right. If you need to schedule a service appointment to fix any of these things, click here!

Chevy Testing Self-Driving in the Chevy Bolt

Self-driving in the Chevy Bolt
Bolt is the new Orange.

Chevrolet recently acquired Cruise Automation, a self-driving startup company based in San Francisco, and just days ago brought a modified Chevy Bolt to the city to test its self-driving technology. Chevy also recently invested in Lyft, a ride-sharing app, in order to build a fleet of self-driving taxis.

Because of this partnership and testing self-driving in the Chevy Bolt, it seems that Chevy may soon add the Bolt to the future fleet of Lyft autonomous cars. Lyft and Chevy are looking to have autonomous fleet vehicles within five years.

The new Bolt, Chevy’s first fully electric car, will be out later this year and will be the first EV on the market to compete with Tesla in terms of range, with an estimate of upwards of 200 miles. The Bolt will be priced lower than any other electric car on the market.

When asked whether he was worried about the Bolt taking sales from the Volt PHEV, products manager Shad Balch said the two are for different audiences and mentioned that the Bolt’s release date is ahead of the new Tesla Model 3’s. The Bolt is in a position to dominate the ever growing EV market.

Reviewers Praise Chevy Cruze Improvements for 2016

Chevy Cruze Improvements - 2016 Cruze
*praise hand emoji* for the 2016 Chevy Cruze!

The Cruze is a vehicle given credit for the revitalization of American-made brands in the compact car market. Whereas small car sales have largely been dominated by Japanese rivals in recent years, the release of Chevrolet’s Cruze helped level the playing field. Now, for 2016, reviewers are enamored with the Chevy Cruze improvements, giving the little car even more of an edge over competitors within the same segment.

The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze brings a number of new features and updates to the car that significantly improve over the previous model. While Chevrolet hasn’t taken any risky leaps with the Cruze, the company has no reason to — the Cruze is already a winner, and the brand listened to feedback and made detailed, thoughtful upgrades to the car for 2016 that make it an all-around more appealing member of the compact car segment. For budget-conscious buyers, according to professional reviews, the Chevy Cruze is an undeniable top pick.

The first, most noticeable change is the Cruze’s refreshed appearance. With an undoubtedly more sporty styling and appearance, the Chevrolet Cruze has a distinct presence, especially when fitted with the aggressive 18-inch wheels of the higher-end Premier trim with the RS package. However, the Cruze offers just as much of a pleasurable driving experience on the entry-level trim. One thing reviewers continuously pointed out was the quiet ride and great visibility, especially considering the addition of a standard rear backup camera.

Chevy Cruze improvements grant the compact car segment an affordable American alternative to foreign competitors in a market dominated by Japanese automakers for so long. With a roomier interior, luxurious leather options, and standard 4G LTE wireless, the Cruze is a definite winner and is attraction attention from industry insiders.

TGIF Concert Series - Morganton, NC
Thank goodness it’s Friday!

Looking for something fun to do this summer? After just recently beginning on May 6th and running through July 29th this year, downtown Morganton welcomes and encourages residents and visitors alike to attend the free TGIF Concert Series, which entertains event-goers with music, food, and beer every Friday night for two months on the Historic Burke County Courthouse Lawn, rain or shine.

The event itself is free, with the music itself beginning at 7pm every Friday and running until 10pm. Beverage and food vendors will begin opening an hour before the music at 6pm, selling everything from hot dogs, hamburgers, and fries to kettle corn to beer and wine. Because there’s food and drink there, the event organizers ask that no one bring any personal coolers or outside food, but with so many classic all-American summer concessions options, why wouldn’t you want the full experience?

The TGIF Concert Series lineup aims for a more inclusive, family-friendly experience, with live music spanning genres such as the Blues, Rock, Country, and even covers of 90s music. A copy of the band lineup for the two-month-long event is available on Downtown Morganton’s website, with the finale concert ending with a performance from Tim Hall and the Buffalo Country.

The TGIF Concert Series also offers other activities besides outdoor music and food. On May 27th, the Summit Community Church will work together with the event planners to bring an inflatable playground to the Courthouse lawn for kids, while Corn Hole games will also be available for concert goers looking to entertain themselves in other ways before or during the show.

April Is Distracted Driving Awareness Month

Imagine your life back to the time before you had a smartphone. While of course smartphones have tons of advantages, the feeling of getting to disconnect is now rather rare. You might not realize it, but you the perfect chance to disconnect every day—whenever you step into your car.

While everyone knows that texting while driving is dangerous, talking on your phone, hands-free or otherwise, can be just as bad. That is why April is recognized as Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

Distracted driving awareness
Focus on the road, learn good habits in April!

This month, the National Safety Council (NSC) wants to challenge you to Take Back Your Drive by not using your phone in any way while driving. Once you realize how free you feel without your phone and enjoy the added safety benefits, you might never want to go back.

According to the NSC, drivers who are talking on their phones can actually miss seeing up to 50% of their driving environment. Both driving and talking are thinking tasks, and the brain cannot focus on both at the same time.

If you feel ready to Take Back Your Drive and have the freedom to disconnect, sign the online pledge.

Here at Everett Chevy Buick GMC of Morganton, we want to challenge all of our customers to participate in this safety event and be better, more focused drivers.

Start Your Spring Cleaning With These Quick Spring Maintenance Steps

Quick Spring Maintenance
Snow does awful things to your car’s exterior. Get ready for spring!

Your car is pretty ugly right now: salt-stained doors; mud splatters fanning out from your wheel beds; debris littering your upholstery. We’re just a few weeks away from the official start of spring, so there’s no reason to live with a dirty vehicle any longer, and we’ve got a few quick spring maintenance tips to help you freshen up your beloved set of wheels.

  1. First things first—when it comes to quick spring maintenance, nothing is quicker than a trip to the car wash. Make sure the location you go to features sprayers directed at your vehicle’s undercarriage so as to remove all the salt that’s been kicked up. One thing many don’t know about salt is that it isn’t just ugly, it can actually increase rust on your car. It’s important to get salt off of your car ASAP.
  2. Now is a good time to go in and get your tires realigned and suspension checked as well. Potholes are your wheels’ worst enemy, and winter is the best friend of potholes.
  3. If you have delayed getting an oil change, delay no longer! While you’re out there getting those tires checked, you may as well knock out another car service must-do.
  4. Replace your wiper blades. Winter ice is harsh on your wiper blades, and as drivers we tend to forget we need to replace our wipers until we’re caught in the middle of a dramatic thunderstorm when a fresh set would sure come in handy (we’re on to you, April showers!).
